When the traffic goes quiet, the voices fade away… and the only music you hear is that of rain drops hitting the ground and the bike tires tearing through the puddles and splashing water all around!! All this while you smell that heavenly notes of wet earth all around you! That’s cycling in the rain – an experience like no other experiennce!! Soaked but stoked… cold but warm with excitement… challenged by nature but rebellious full of energy!
While you have time of your life cycling in the rain… there is a reason why you may be enjoying this all by yourself outside… not everyone can brave the challenge nature throws at you with this. All for a reasons though. However with right preparations and precautions one can really reap maximum rewards for the risk you embrace! So lets prep ourselves up to have time of our lives with such an experience
The right gear
- Fenders: Keeps you back dry and saves your clothes from the water and mud splashes
- Waterproof jacket & pants: Stay dry and avoid getting to your destination all soaked and dripping
- Gloves: Keep away the cold for just a bit longer and ensure your grip does not slip off the handlebars
- Shoe covers or waterproof shoes: Keep the cold away from your feet for a just a little longer
- Lights: Keep yourself visible on the road as the visibility drops drastically in the rain and relative darkness
- Tires: Go for wider and grippier tires before the rainy seasons for better traction on the roads
While the gear can only do so much, its important to ride carefully as well. Brake early and ride slow… it will not only keep you safe but also let you enjoy the experience longer!
So next time it rains, you know its time to get out!! Stay safe and have all the fun!!
